Ugh, yeah. Native Texan here. My mother works for the school system and has all while I was growing up, so I am constantly getting insider views and a steady stream of information. It is sickening.
As part of the board's effort to emphasize the positives in American history, students will no longer learn about "American imperialism." Instead students will discuss "American expansionism" and come to understand how "missionaries moved the United States into the position of a world power."
At least I know what I'm drinking tonight when I get home.
This isn't anything new. In 1967, the state-mandated text for American History for 8th grade students was full of such "unique perspectives." I should know, as I graduated from high school in Texas five years later.
It's only a problem if the teachers actually bother to teach to the new curriculum. A lot of them will not, because they are going to focus on what their students need, and not what a bunch of politically-motivated activists on the state education boards want.
There aren't any. Ugh. At least they kept evolution int he books and Creationism out. Because that was, honestly, a debate for a good while. Ughughugh. Can I move to your back yard? Please? x.x;
Because the cities are getting more progressive, more or less. Look, fundamentalist behavior, whether it's religious fundamentalism or some other sort, as we see here, is essentially a reaction to a perception that the fundamentalist's POV is losing its influence. The thing is, it's WAY to easy to subvert this sort of thing by requiring supplemental reading that covers the material the curriculum designers left out. And that's what's going to happen in a lot of cases.
