I actually find the whole thing fascinating, considering what we have to do to produce similar effects with machines, when owls just do it so naturally. I'm certain it has to do with enabling the owl to keep a visual lock on its prey while the owl's wings and body gyrate as required to fly in difficult circumstances. Amazing.
