Aug. 9th, 2011 05:17 pmSo, lots of new things! This includes a couple of tails I've never worked with before--bison and alligator--plus a vintage bobcat hide that I made into a dance skin! And there are plenty of other neat things, too!
Also, you may have noticed that the prices on tails with belts went up about $5 each. This is because I've had the singles at the same price--$25--for the last decade, and with the amount of work, time and leather that go into each of those, I figured it was about time to give myself a bit of a raise. There are still the lower-priced tail options of those with belt loops and carabiners, but really, $30 for a really well-made totem dance tail that will last you for years is a pretty good deal!
As always, prices do not include shipping, animal parts may only be shipped in the U.S., LAYAWAY is available, and part of the proceeds go to groups like the Defenders of Wildlife and Wolf Haven International. Everything is available on my website, my Etsy store, and my Artfire. And if you don't see what you really want, custom work is available!
Description: I rescued this little wooden box from a yard sale; after giving it a bath to get rid of accumulated dust, I painted it black and sealed the paint. I then added a rectangle of real zebra hide, a scrap from a taxidermist, to the lid to add some color. It's a simple addition, but the end result is a beautiful piece that would look great on an altar, or for holding small items such as jewelry. The box measures 3 1/2" x 2 1/4" x 2 1/8".

Price: $60.00
Materials: Bobcat skin, leather, acrylic paint
Description: There are some questionably "vintage" hides out there; however, this bobcat is most definitely the real deal. I pulled it from a rug dated (on the rug shell) to 1969. It's got the wear and tear to prove it, too! I trimmed away some dry-rotted fur around the edges, and did a paint patch on a few bare spots (the picture makes it look worse than it is!), as well as doing some other minor repair work. I then added deerskin straps to tie the skin under the chin; it measures 34 1/2" long and it's surprisingly lightweight! Great for dancing or a part of ritual wear in general, and nice if you prefer lowering the demand for new hides.
Price: $150.00
